Why "AI: Art, War and Personality"? A personal note.

Updated: Dec 29, 2022

Welcome to my personal site and blog. I am Daniel Hedblom. I'd like to explain the section titles and a perhaps a bit about me. First of all, this is not a blog of my family life - but rather ideas I love to discuss. And perhaps a few links to things I think more people should see and consider. For those of you who know me personally in real life the current title of the site might seem perplexing. "Shouldn't you write about music, movies, raccoons, financial or music analytics, or whether Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure is the better choice?". AI is easy to figure out as it is a subject that interests me. And it is fairly easy to see that Art and War are related to the books "AI & Art" and "AI & Digital Warfare" written together with Niklas Hageback in 2021... And as these both books explain, generative AI (or AI art) is something that will revolutionize the society and is close to my heart. And digital warfare and exciting area and something we need to learn to live with.

So why is AI & Art interesting enough to write a book and blog about?

Image: "An artist caught in the internet trying to paint his way out"", Daniel Hedblom/Big Sleep AI, 2021 First of all generative AI, or AI Art is incredibly fun. So I might upload some of my tinkering here, and post links to things I think others should explore as well.

By now, in late 2022, everyone has started to understand the power of (AI) generated art and have begun to realize that it might lead to large changes for creative industries.

But when we starting to discuss it a few years ago, we saw that people didn't quite understand the potential. And we especially noted that it likely will lead to societal conflicts and confusion.

So we decided to try to describe what was going on, but more importantly formulate an "AI art manifesto" aimed to highlight the upcoming conflicts.

We wanted to describe it for the general population and discuss it in general terms as opposed to the technical documentation or narrow self-interest discussions. So I might link to those discussions and things that appear surrounding AI and art.

So why is AI & Digital Warfare, interesting enough to write a book and blog about?

Image: "A digital battelfield", Daniel Hedblom/Big Sleep AI, 2021 We noticed in 2020 that Cyber crime and attacks were on the rise and it is a risk for both companies and countries. But not much had been written about it from a layman perspective as most of it was technically focused. And with corona lockdowns we decided to explore the history so far, put it into a theoretical perspective relating to other kinds of warfare, and try to look into the future and help raise understanding of its importance.

(Please note; war doesn't refer to the war in Ukraine. And although I follow it closely I won't write about it here - except possibly when relating to digital warfare).

So why Personality? And why isn't there a book on that? There is a section mysteriously named "personality". This is partly to focus on the interesting overlap between AI Art and Digital Warfare via Deep Fakes and cyber campaigns. And there is an interesting upcoming discussion about how personality will be affected by the new tools, and being under constant attack.

But mostly this section relates to a long-term ongoing personal sideproject to try to build a "deep fake personality". Or said differently; an artificial anti-intelligence. Anti-intelligence as it can be used to analyze or simulate the irrational, non-intelligent behavior we humans exhibit.

This is an area where there are a few projects going on, but there are far fewer projects than in other approaches to "AI". So I hope to highlight those, and possibly start some discussions (And perhaps some day present more about the side-project when it is ready).
